* The following effects are just a generalisation, everyone will have different experiences. The effects of a substance depend on a range of factors only one of which is the drug itself. A lot of the time what happens is determined by what you expect to happen.

What does it feel like to take MDMA?


The most predictable feelings experienced are empathy, openness, peace and caring. However, what people experience can vary from paranoia to sleep, depending greatly on other factors.


Chemically the drug is amphetamine like, but psychologically it's what's known as an empathogen-entactogen, empathogenic means the ability to communicate things to others or the ability to feel empathy towards others and entactogenic means feeling well or good with yourself and the world.


What are the physical effects of taking MDMA?   Listen to someone describe their

Effects related to serotonin:

  • increased feeling of closeness with others
  • feeling of well-being

Effects related to dopamine

  • euphoria
  • confidence
  • reduced inhibitions

Effects related to noradrenaline

  • dilated pupils
  • sweating
  • hyperactivity, restlessness
  • talkative
  • jaw clenching and possible teeth grinding
  • faster breathing
  • nausea
  • headache
  • insomnia


Some people also report experiencing hallucinations, and erectile dysfunction (obtaining and/or maintaining an erection).

And afterwards:

  • fatigue
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • paranoia
  • anorexia
